Description: Trumaine White and I worked together on this one. This design mocks the demeaning and insensitive sign found at the border with Mexico, which depicts a family running across the border, accompanied by the words CAUTION on top, and PROHIBIDO at the bottom. Umille and Thomas are an adventurous pair, always crossing frontiers. The other design has to do with them traveling through space and deciding between heading for Jupiter or Saturn. Umille on one side, caught up in his indecision, "jailed" by his choices of direction. Thomas, on the other side is the "space highway" himself. That's why Umille needs Thomas.
Description: Here the idea is to reconcile Zingerman's colorful, fun, "loud," down-to-earth and abundant "look and feel," with a sense of elegance, cleanliness and legibility requested by the client, for their new business, Zingerman's Food Tours.
Description: CD design for Christen Lien, an awesome musician who plays a viola through guitar effects pedals. Listen to her music at: http://music.itsnotaviolin.com. Photos by Meredith Zielke.
Description: I am currently developing a concept for a clothing brand with the guys at undgrd (http://undgrd.com). The line is called Umille-Thomas, where Umille is an adventurer whose power lies in the friendship with his companion, Thomas, the pig. In general terms, Thomas helps Umille reconcile his rationality with his "animality" or irrational side. In this graphic, there is a reference to the relationship that medieval-time jesters had with their companion animals, usually dogs or monkeys. Click on the image to view a larger version.

Description: One of my favorites. I wanted to communicate that message directly and effectively, while playing with the meaning of words in a suggestive way.
Description: This image has been well accepted and has become recognizable around Ann Arbor. I learned recently that someone crafted a version of it onto a hand made coffee mug.
Description: I designed this logo for a band I have with my brother. The logo resulted from the juxtaposition of, and experimentation with the letterforms of a script font and a slab serif font.
Description: At first glace you read "Live Now". On a second look, other sentences are revealed. At the core of this word play is the idea that a life here (your life) is equal to a life elsewhere. To "live now," is to "give now." This message of urgency is reinforced by the question "Will I be alive tomorrow?," which applies not only to the uncertainty that some must live with everyday, but to the fact that none of us knows if we will be alive tomorrow, which means that if we want to give, we must give now.
Description: For this logo, I was inspired by the shapes in 13th Century Persian patterns. The concept is about a "burning" type of spirituality, therefore the flame and the wings.
Description: This is a proposal for a photographer's website. I tried to create an interesting visual experience while keeping it very simple to use and relatively easy to build.
Description: I worked closely with award-winning filmmaker Brook Keesling on these materials for the festival in 2007. All Illustration work is by Brook. I did the design and laid out the program guide.
Description: Wordpress theme for Christen Lien, an awesome musician who plays a viola through guitar effects pedals. Her compositions paint landscapes, like film projections inside your head. Listen to her music at: http://music.itsnotaviolin.com
Description: This brochure is used to promote various education options that are offered to Zingerman's employees. My work included art direction, design and production. It won a Silver Addy award in 2007. Illustrations by Ian Nagy.
Description: I did the design and production for a series of catalogs in the summer of 2007, under the direction of Mo Frechette. Illustrations by Ian Nagy and Ryan Stiner.
Description: The design allows the guys at Zingerman's Coffee Company to easily print their own labels and stick them onto the bag. The bright colors make this bag stand out on the shelf.
Description: I designed the identity for the award-winning documentary film "Make Goals Not War". These are some of the materials used for the promotion of the film and the campaign itself.
