Raúl is a graphic designer and educator currently living in Grand Rapids, MI. Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, Raúl joined the Art & Design faculty at Grand Valley State University in 2016, where he teaches beginning through advanced courses in Typography and Graphic Design. Before joining Grand Valley, Raúl worked for a wide variety of organizations and clients, having gained experience in many fields within the profession, including branding and identity design, advertising, print design, digital and mobile design, front-end development, user experience design, book and book cover design and illustration. His research is focused on the exploration of confluences between graphic design and music. His work for the arts and culture industries has been published by Farrar Straus and Giroux, S. Fischer Verlag in Germany, Yep Roc Records and Northwestern University, among others.
Besides his role as a teacher, Raúl currently practices as an independent graphic designer, working with clients from around the country.
