An immigrant can be known as:
An alien, a defector, a deportee, an evacuee, an exile, an expatriate, a foreigner, an “illegal,” a migrator, a noncitizen, a nonnative, a newcomer, a refugee, a relocatee, a repatriate, a squatter, a trekkerah. Even a colonist, a pilgrim, a pioneer!
But: an immigrant is unrooted. An immigrant is a traveler and a messenger. An immigrant moves forward, reaches higher. An immigrant is broken, incomplete, redacted, dirty. An immigrant is a stranger.
This self-initiated work celebrates the immigrant in all of us.
